" चले जाते हैं सब क्यूँ दूर, जाने मौत को पाकर,
आवाजें लौट आती हैं, गगन से रोज टकराकर!

नहीं आते बुलाने से, जो हमसे दूर जाते हैं,
हजारों ख़त भी तुम भेजो, उन्हें यादों के लिखवाकर!

यही सच है ज़माने में, सभी को मौत आती है,
यहाँ सांसे नहीं मिलती, कहीं दौलत को बिखराकर!

हजारों ख्बाव आँखों में, हजारों हसरतें दिल में,
मगर ये मौत बाँहों में, उन्हें ले जाए सिमटाकर!

नहीं मिटती मगर यादें तुम्हारी,"देव" आँखों से,
जहाँ आखिर पलों में तुम, गए थे हमसे बतलाकर!”
